You know those sitcoms where one of the show's characters adopts a puppet and very quickly the puppet starts taking on a personality independent of the owner? Well ... it appears that there is no way to invest a puppet with personality without, well, investing it with a personality. And so, these days, my two main little girls (who I call Madeline and Sophie) are often found sitting in my office, studio or living room and they do like contributing to the conversation now and then. I don't have them out all the time - just when getting ready for a video, like now, working on The Pasta Song ... but they definitely have added a new dimension to life in our household. My brief excursion into the world of the puppetry has increased my respect for puppeteers. Working on my third video performance, I have grown used to being stuffed under the table, legs cramped in odd positions so as not to bump the tripod, banging my head on hard objects, getting pelted by falling props and holding my arms up in the air so long that they begin to quiver. Now I will admit that I love hobbies that come with fashion accessories, so shopping for Madeline and Sophie has been delightful. Also, it is rather nice to be a grown up with an excuse to play with dolls. Truth be told, the whole thing is more fun than peanut butter and jelly. So stay tuned - The Pasta Song video will be out soon. Love, Madeline
